How to Keep Your Pet Clean and Groomed
It’s important to understand that some species of pets have different needs than others. Further, individual pets and their personality and/or lifestyle will also require different grooming methods and needs. For example, cats are typically better at cleaning themselves than dogs. And yet, some long-haired cat breeds may require more frequent grooming than some short-haired breeds.
Either way, pets require regular grooming and baths. Cats and dogs that are active outside may require more frequent brushings and also bathing. You’ll want to keep an eye out for ticks and fleas, and if they are found, treatment, including special shampoos, is necessary. If you do discover ticks or fleas, contacting a veterinarian is wise.
How often your cat or dog should be brushed depends on the breed and his or her hair. Some cats or dogs only need to be brushed once a week. Others should be brushed at least a few times a week, and once per day isn’t unheard of.
You may also need to trim your dog or cat's nails. Trimming nails can be difficult, and sometimes it’s best left to a vet or pet groomer. Trimming hair on the paws may also be necessary.
Keeping a close eye on your pet’s ears is important. Watch out for infections, wax build-ups, and other issues. Regular cleaning may be needed, and it may be best to let a vet or pet groomer handle it.
Also, regular teeth cleaning and pet dental care may be necessary to ensure that your pet is clean and healthy.
